Meinir Wyn Davies
Meinir is our Musical Director. She is always keen to pass on her expertise to SOCS and get the best possible results for its members. Her own achievements are many.1986 Meinir won the prestigious Blue Riband Prize for Instrumentalists at The Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales and was a prize winner at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. After gaining her Bachelor of Music honours degree at the University of Wales she won an Arts Council Award for advanced study and went on to receive piano tuition from Paul Berkowitz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and with Yonty Solomon of the Royal College of Music.
In 1988 Meinir obtained a Master of Arts degree in Music Performance Studies from the City University, London and in 1992 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Meinir also plays and teaches the clarinet, flute, alto saxophone and harp. She is also a classical singer and has four teaching and performing diplomas in voice. In 1990 she founded The Saint Cecilia School of Music in Loughton and Epping. Meinir was also Head of Music for 23 years at Braeside School for Girls in Buckhurst Hill before her retirement in 2011. During the last three years Meinir has devoted her time to performance and as a result is much in demand as a solo singer, piano accompanist and wedding harpist.
