Members of NODA - National Operatic & Dramatic Association
Southminster Operatic & Choral Society SOCS gave their first Concert in 1954 known then as Southminster Choral Society, and have gone from strength to strength. For over 60 years they have performed a light opera/musical in May and an Autumn/Christmas concert.
As with every Society we encourage new members. We are always very keen to recruit, be it in the choir, the show casts, scenery makers, behind the scenes help, dressmakers, and refreshment helpers – there is a job for everyone. So please come along and have a cuppa on any rehearsal night, we will make you very welcome!
SOCS rehearsals take place on Thursdays at 7.30pm (September – December for the Concert and January – May for the show) in the URC Christchurch, Orchard Road, Southminster. It is great fun, plus hard work of course when a new production commences in January each year. So if you fancy "treading the boards" please come and look in! The opening night of any show is such a buzz when the lights dim, the audience applause rings out and it all comes together and everyone is so excited. Even if you don't sing very well – practice makes perfect and we don't ask you to audition unless it is for a character part. Telephone our Secretary, on 01621 773010 who will be pleased to answer any questions and give you loads of encouragement.
Come on, we all took the plunge with no regrets and WE NEED YOU.
